This scarf can be made with about 1/2 skein each of two colors of Red Heart Super Saver Solids.

This design was inspired by and fits the criteria of the Scarves for Special Olympics Washington State & Georgia State 2011 Winter Games. It is my hope that those who take advantage of the free download will make up at least one scarf for donation to a Special Olympics program. As the colors change from place to place and year to year, always check with the Special Olympics National or State programs to determine which colors to work with.

The knitting instructions for this design are written out; the colorwork instructions, charted.

The scarf is worked end to end with both single thickness and doubleknit sections. It is perfectly reversible, even the colorwork, and doesn’t roll or curl. The doubleknit colorwork section is a bit fiddly to work, but with some practice it yields very satisfying results. Mostly, you need to be careful not to strand the yarn too tightly when carrying a color in the doubleknit section.

It is a scarf, so gauge is not as important as your satisfaction with the resulting fabric’s drape. Needle size should be adjusted to achieve a fabric that pleases you.

Thank you to Karen Zander and Cindy Harrison, my loyal test knitters. They gave me the courage to publish the pattern for this design.
