Rainbow stripes… A comfortable fit… and it has POCKETS!

CONSTRUCTION:
This garment is knit seamlessly from the top down. The yoke featured a circular/raglan hybrid construction for an optimal fit. The yoke begins flat then is joined in the round after the button opening is complete. The sleeves are then put on hold, and the body is worked in the round to the hem, featuring two pockets with striped linings (the bottom and edges of the pocket linings require some sewing.) Lastly, the sleeve stitches are returned to the needles and worked in the round to the cuff. There is a button closure at the back neck.

Skills required: casting on, knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing, knitting in the round, picking up stitches, binding off, neatly weaving in ends, sewing.

SIZES:
3mo (6mo, 12mo, 18mo // 2yo, 4yo, 6yo, 8yo, 10yo)
To fit chest: 16 (17, 18, 19 // 21, 23, 25, 26.5, 28) inches or 40.5 (43, 45.5, 48.5 // 53.5, 58.5, 63.5, 67.5, 71) cm.
Garment chest at underarms: 17.5 (19, 19.75, 20.5 // 22.75, 25.25, 27.5, 29, 30.5) inches or 44.5 (48.5, 50, 52 // 58, 64, 70, 72, 73.5) cm.

YARN REQUIREMENTS:
Please note: I used Rowan Felted Tweed for the sample, which can felt easily if machine-washed. You can substitute any DK weight yarn that you achieve the recommended gauge with.

Main Color: Approximately 300 (350, 400, 450 // 500, 575, 650, 800, 900) yds or 274 (320, 366, 411 // 457, 526, 594, 731, 823) meters of DK weight yarn.
5 Contrasting Colors: Approximately 25 yds or 23 meters of DK weight yarn each.

NEEDLES:

  • US6 or 4 mm circular needle (or size needed to match stockinette stitch gauge). Length: 16-inch or 40 cm and 30-inch or 76 cm.
  • matching double-pointed needles or short circular needle for sleeves and pocket linings.
  • US4 or 3.5 mm circular needle (or 2 sizes smaller than above) of the same two lengths for neckline and hem.
  • matching double-pointed needles for sleeve cuffs.

NOTIONS:

  • 6 stitch markers (I recommend using a different color for the BOR m)
  • tapestry needle
  • 2 pieces of scrap yarn or stitch holders
  • 1 button ½-inch or 13 mm in diameter

GAUGE:
21 sts x 30 rounds = 4 inches or 10 cm in stockinette stitch in the round after blocking using larger needle.
Please adjust your needle size if needed to achieve gauge.
