A mother-to-be was having a hard time finding a soft, tiny, perfect little hat to pack in her hospital bag. All the ones that she found in the store had seams and tags and scratchy bits on the inside!

So I decided that my next design would be a soft, comfortable, seamless, simple hat for newborns. I used wonderful Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino yarn for inspiration and made six little hats.

I am a tight knitter and used a 4.0 mm needle to get gauge but most people would do best with a 3.5 or 3.75. I use a 16” circular needle with same size dpns for finishing off the top and the I-Cord and do not change size for the ribbing.

I found that buying 2 balls (1 main and 1 contrast) would get me two hats with a little bit left over. If making a solid color hat - 1 ball will do.

There are instructions for making the a bit bigger (3 months) or a bit smaller (preemie).
