First Sweater release of the Spirit Animals Sequence – Whale and Bear to follow. This pattern coordinates with the Spirit Toques Pattern.

Wolves are amazing creatures. They are both majestic and playful, magical and meaningful. I find the first nations of the West Coast images are particularly evocative and moving. This is my interpretation of a very classic image of a wolf, singing to the moon.
The charts for this pattern are large and need to be downloaded separately - there are 6 separate downloads - 5 for the charts and 1 for the pattern itself.

Materials: Depending on the size of the Garment – for a chest measure of 32in, 36in, 40in or 44 inches (actual finish is 2 inches larger than indicated)(think of what amount of ease you want for your garment) – Country Roving, 4, 5, 6, or 7 wheels of the main colour and 2 wheels of the secondary colour and 1 wheel of contrast; Prairie Wool (has approx. 20 yds less per wheel), 5, 6, 7 or 8 wheels of the main, 2 or 3 wheels of the secondary, and 1 wheel of the contrast; Prairie Sea Fusion, 2, 3, 3 or 4 cones of the main, 1 or 2 cones of the secondary, 1 cone of the contrast; 6.0mm needles for ribbing, 7.0mm, 7.5mm (not common any longer – but some people do have them in their stash) or 8mm needles for the body, or whatever is required for gauge (make sure to work a gauge swatch); zipper; markers and the regular notions.

Weaving the Yarns
Cowichan style colourwork is a little different from standard fair-isle colourwork. The yarns are woven in behind each stitch as you carry them along. As you knit the yarns to be carried are lifted or lowered in front of the working yarn. As each stitch is worked, the yarn is caught and then carried, resulting in a tightly woven interior.
