Notes

Everyone liked my first Spare Squares so much that I can see myself making several more!! This one (in German Shepherd colors) is for my cousin Nancy Jo, who lives for her German Shepherd dogs. It says “Dog Blessed” on one side and “In dog we trust” on the other. I love this knitted-in words idea! I can see myself using it in a lot of different ways.

Made the smaller size because the yarn is DK weight, although knitting on small needles so the gauge is not too far off. I always prefer a denser fabric anyhow. So now I have another thick, squishy hat that is very warm but not at all tight. Perfection!

I used this alphabet, but modified it slightly to remove some of the serifs. The tips of most of the ascenders and descenders and the dot on the ‘i’ were applied afterward in duplicate stitch. It’s a nice clear alphabet, made easier to read by a) strong color/value contrast and b) a nice firm gauge.
