March 2014: This hat has been in wear for three winters now and I love it every bit as much as I did when I finished it. If you’re on the fence about whether to knit this one, do. In hindsight, the well-written pattern made it easy to combine cables and basic lace and really gave me the assurance to take my knitting skills further.

i was intrigued by this yarn, a blend of merino, vicose, cashmere, nylon, and angora. i’m hoping it will be very soft and hold its shape.

The pattern yarn calls for a cast on of 132 switches. After swatching, however, I cast on 100, then decreased to 99 in the first set up row after the ribbing at the bottom of the hat was complete.

I adjusted the size 2 and 3 needles the pattern calls for to a 4 and a 6.

This pattern is surprisingly easy to memorize and knit, and is really a good project for someone who wants to experiment with both an easy lace and an easy cable project.
