Need white yarn, worsted weight, 17sts/24rows = 4” in st st
9/20/08 - Well, that’ll teach me. I knew I was taking a chance by picking up the last ball of white and hoping that the new yarn my LYS was getting in would match, even though it was probably a different dyelot. It is and it doesn’t. Fortunately, it only took me a day to get the cardigan more than half done and use up that ball of yarn, so I’m not worried about getting this done in time.
9/25/08 - Restarted, and working to get back on track. The good news is that I already made the mistakes in the other cardigan, so this should be perfect…right? ;-)
(And my previous work won’t be going to waste: I bought a nice subdued lime green and will be finishing the cardigan with that--it looks great with the crisp white--for my daughter.)
9/29/08 - Done! Well, almost done; I need to wash and shape (the seed stitch edging wants to fold under), but everything else--including the seaming!--is finished. I was pretty afraid of that seaming part, and the first two sites I found with instructions didn’t help (one was a video with awful reviews; the other was a written explanation with insufficient illustrations). I highly recommend Knitty.com’s tutorial on the mattress stitch; that got me through the project and it was amazingly easy! Plus, it’s like black magic!
10/2 - As I haven’t mailed this out to my sister-in-law yet--it goes out tomorrow!--this was modeled by my camera happy baby girl, Lexie. In the mean time, I’ve got enough Lion’s Brand yarn in different colors for at least 3 more cardigans, including one for the daughter of a friend, due in November.
