9/20/08 - I know better than to buy the last ball of yarn when I know I need two, and then hope that the new order will match colorwise even though it’ll probably be a different dye lot. But I let myself be lulled by the fallacy of “white’s white, right?”
Wrong.
The difference isn’t great, but I can see it. So I’ll need to start my niece’s wedding cardigan over with the 2 new (matching dye lot) balls I’ve bought. The good news is that my previous work won’t be wasted. I bought a ball of a very pretty subdued lime green that I’m finishing the cardigan with, and it looks great with the crisp white.
9/21/08 - All of the knitting is done; now I just need to seam it up! It really looks great, so the last thing I want to do is mess it up with careless seaming. I’m going to do some research before I start to make sure the seaming is as…er, seamless as possible!
9/25/08 - One note I forgot: while doing the eyelet section I kept ending up one stitch short. I couldn’t figure out why until I realized what I was doing. The eyelet row calls for a K2tog, yo repeat across the row, except for the seed stitches on either side. I kept forgetting that last yo before I started the seed stitches (because I needed to remember to shift to purl for the first seed stitch) and so I was inadvertently reducing a stitch with each eyelet row. The good news is that I was able to add the stitch back in in a later row without it showing, and the missing eyelet isn’t noticeable.
9/29/08 - Now that I’ve finished, I’m sure what it was about the seaming that I was so worried about! The key was finding the right tutorial (thanks, Knitty.com!) that explained the steps clearly and included good pictures. The mattress seam stitch is like black magic--even my non-crafty husband couldn’t get over it!
