Sept. 5, 2012 - Planning a Rugby Ripple

While planning last month’s Game Day! ripple I ‘stole’ the ten ounces of navy yarn I’d set aside for yet another ripple, one inspired by the photo of a navy and orange rugby shirt.

Searching through my charity stash I found only smaller amounts of navy yarns. I guess I’ll just alternate stripes of two different navies, 8 oz. of Caron One Pound ‘Midnight Blue’ and 7 oz. of RHSS ‘Soft Navy’. The blanket will require all 15 oz.

By making the orange stripes narrower then the navy ones, I’ll get by with just one seven-ounce skein of my RHSS ‘Carrot’. yay!

So, it’s going to be three rows of ‘Soft Navy’ or ‘Midnight Blue’, followed by one of ‘Aran’, then two rows of ‘Carrot’ followed by another of ‘Aran’…
and so on.

Sept. 17, 2012 - It turned out that crocheting even such a simple striping pattern wasn’t without challenges. You can read about them in this blog post.

As usual I modified the Rustic Ripple pattern - used an H hook with only one strand of yarn and increased each run of stitches to ten.
