I knit a pair of fingerless gloves for my husband last year. I knit the first one and it fit so I sat down and knit the second one. Just one problem, I knit the second one with a smaller size needle. oops!!! Rather than frogging this one, I tried it on and it actually fit me. So time to make lemonade. Its nice to start a project where I’m already halfway done!
Summary
-
I’m knitting these with a single yarn, no stripes.
-
Knit using 2 circulars.
-
Cast on with German Twisted Cast On.
-
Changed the order of the thumb gusset increases. I did: K to M, Slip Marker, M1L, K to M, M1R, SM, K to end. In case there is some confusion as to which increase is right or left, see the twist collective Make 1 Left or Right page.
Journal
2013-09-14: Resurrect the already completed glove so I can start the second one. Cast on and completed cuff.
2013-09-15: Bad day today. I knit to the first decrease and discovered that had cast on too few stitches. So I ripped out, paid attention this time (ha ha), knit to the gusset, only to realize I again cast on too few stitches. I’m glad this is an easy pattern! Ripped again. Cast on again. Triple checked this time, but i’m still in the ribbed cuff section.
2013-09-16: I’m on a roll. I’ve counted multiple times and am on track (ha, ha). Completed cuff, and first wrist section. I discovered again that I was 2 stitches short, so I eliminated the last decrease before the gusset section. I’m not ripping out again!!!
2013-09-17: Completed gusset section. Moved thumb stitches to holders and connected hand.
2013-09-18: Complete second mitt. Ends woven in. Just need pictures.
Errata
-
There is an error in the gusset setup round. The pattern calls for a K1L. I believe the intent of the pattern is a M1L.
-
Small error in the thumb gusset section of the pattern: The pattern reads, “Continue knitting for 1.5 inches, or 1/2 inches to desired length”. It should read, “Continue knitting for 1.5 inches or 1/2 inch less than desired length”.
-
There is also an error in the thumb. The thumb has 25 stitches. The pattern calls for a pick up of 2 stitches for a total of 27 stitches. There are no additional increases or pickups. The pattern calls for finishing the thumb in a 1x1 rib which requires an even number of stitches.
