Knitting: Cowl
Birch Path is a bulky weight cowl inspired by Anne of Green Gables and walks through the woods with a good friend.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks, Ankle Sock
These socks were inspired by the visible traces of seismic activity. Jagged lines of lace run down the front of each sock, placed slightly off-center; flanking areas of texture hint at the feeling of ruptured earth by adding rough edges to the smooth lines of the lace.

This pattern is part of the Sun and Fog Winter 2021 Collection, which includes nine ocean-inspired accessories from Northern California designers, each of which can be made with 100g of yarn or less.

Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
“Strike me pink!” said Mary Poppins. That was what she always said when she was pleased.
Knitting: Cowl
Winter is coming! Take shelter behind the Battlements cowl. Slightly asymmetrical, virtually reversible, and completely cozy, this unisex cowl is knitted flat end-to-end in a simple garter and rib texture combination reminiscent of the notched parapet of a castle wall. But these battlements, made of soft, warm wool instead of cold, hard stone, ...
Knitting: Cowl
This cowl is another result of my continuing fascination with lace + texture. A simple knit/purl basketweave pattern, opened up with eyelets, produces a fabric that is the perfect combination of airy and cozy.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This top-down triangular shawl is a fun and easy way to study the interaction of color and texture. Choose two favorite colors, cast on, and observe how simple stripes alternating between garter stitch and stockinette produce a complex effect with very little effort.
Knitting: Cowl
This loop and Moebius pattern is the latest addition to my series of explorations of lace + texture. Worked in an Aran weight yarn, the cozy knit/purl texture dominates; scattered eyelets provide a hint of lace. The reversible pattern means you never have to worry that the wrong side is showing.
Knitting: Cowl
This design began as a collaboration with Dana of Unwind Yarn Company. As soon as I saw the Birth of Venus colorway she sent me to work with, I decided that the cowl should feature pattern motifs that also reminded me of the Botticelli painting. The particular details I wanted to capture were the shell on which the newborn Venus is standing and...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The body of this top-down triangular shawlette is worked in an easy lace pattern with a hint of texture that flows smoothly into a simple scalloped edge. Two variations provide options to suit any yarn: allover lace works well with even the most highly variegated skeins, while stripes of lace and stockinette add interest to a subtler semisolid ...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This top-down triangular shawlette is a fun and easy way to play with texture and color. The body is mostly plain, with a scattering of purl dots to provide visual (and knitting!) interest; slipped-stitch dashes give the stripes at the edge some extra flair. Pattern instructions are provided in both written and charted form.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
The design of these lacy socks is inspired by a Frank Lloyd Wright Tree of Life window on view at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. Diagonal eyelets represent the panes of glass, while the chevron shapes formed by the corresponding decreases mimic the lines of leading between them; an eye-of-partridge heel adds to the stained-glass effect.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Aroura is a triangular shawl with a relatively shallow point and longer tails, worked from the top center down to the bottom edge. It begins with a garter spine and stockinette body, then adds stripes of a contrasting color in an intricate-looking but easy-to-knit texture pattern, finishing with a garter edge.
Knitting: Cowl, Scarf
This loop scarf is the second in my series of explorations of lace + texture. This time the two sides of the pattern are different, but I think each is pleasing in its own way: the right side combines a rib and welt stair step pattern with a strong diagonal line of eyelets, while the wrong side shows a series of offset rib segments with the eye...
Knitting: Cowl
This loop scarf is easy to knit and even easier to wear – the simple rib-based lace pattern is completely reversible, so you never have to worry that the wrong side is showing. The crooked lines that zigzag across the scarf highlight its cozy ribbed texture.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This small shawl, designed to use a single 100g skein of fingering-weight yarn, features a simple knit-and-purl basketweave pattern that flows smoothly into a gently draping ribbed edge. The easy texture pattern looks good in both semisolid and more highly variegated colorways, and produces a cozier, more casual fabric than lace.
Knitting: Cowl, Scarf
This lightweight and versatile circular scarf can be worn in one long elegant loop or doubled around the neck for more warmth. (Knitters in a hurry can cast on fewer stitches and knit it as a regular cowl.) The easy lace pattern is both charted and written out.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This simple top-down triangular shawlette is designed to show off handspun yarn, but many commercial yarns would work well too, particularly those ranging in weight from light fingering to DK or light worsted. It can be knitted at virtually any gauge and to any size, subject to the amount of yarn available.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This top-down triangular shawl was inspired by the colorway of the handspun yarn, handpainted by Spunky Eclectic in the color Flowering Weeds. Mostly plain stockinette stitch is punctuated by bands of flowers of increasing size, set off by purl ridges; the final band of flowers transitions smoothly into a scalloped edging.
Knitting: Cowl
This simple cowl pattern can be knitted at virtually any gauge, with any yarn. The stitch pattern is an easy mix of knits and purls, nearly identical on right and wrong sides, which produces a textured fabric that is suitable for both men and women.
