Early June Wrap
In Sweden, the month of June is fresh and sparkling, like a cold-served glass of dry white wine. It comes with hope for warmth and slow summer days, but yet, there is still a chill in the air. In the early mornings you will need something to wrap yourself in. Knitted in unspun Nutiden yarn, or mohair/alpaca lace yarn, this shawl can provide both warmth and that light feeling, like wearing a comforting cloud. Like all my designs, this is aiming for the perfect spot in between interesting and mindless, easy knitting.
The Early June shawl is worked from the top down in a classic triangle shape, increasing from a central spine. Additional shaping increases create a generous, wide wingspan. A simple border frames the shawl, for a clean, polished finish.
Yarn
300 gram Nutiden unspun yarn from Honer and Eir.
As an alternative around 125 gram Alpaca or Mohair silk light lace yarn/800 meters per 100 grams. My mohair silk version is knitted in Irish fairytale yarns Kid Mohair Silk Lace.
Needles
Straight or circular US8/5 mm or the size needed to meet gauge or provide a fabric you like.
Smaller sized circular or double pointed needle for the start of the shawl.
Notions
Stitch markers, tapestry needle.
Gauge in stockinette.
Stitchgauge 15 sts/10 cm/4 inches
Rowgauge 27 rows/10 cm/4 inches
Measurements
Nutiden yarn version
Wingspan after 5 motifs is around 2 meters/6.56 feet.
After 6 motifs, like in the pictures, 2,8 meters/9.18 feet.
Depth after 5 motifs is around 60 cm/2 feet
After 6 motifs, like in the pictures, 80 cm/2.6 feet.
Alpaca/silk or Mohair/silk version measures can vary with the yarn, but the pattern is adjustable, you can easily add or subtract repeats to get the size you want.
