Monarch Butterfly Shawl
This shawl, like a butterfly, is light and fluid due to intarsia. It is bordered by (small white) stranded spots adding a hint of weight along the bottom edge. It is a written pattern and begins with a provisional cast on and ends with an I-cord edging along the top. It is a written pattern due large size of charts.
Yardage: Approximately 924 yards/845 meters of Black and Orange (Sweet Potato) and 350 yards/320 meters of White Some Waste Yarn.
Needles: Size US 4/3.5mm either straight or 29” circular, and one pair of double pointed needles for I-cord edge. Optional crochet hook for the provisional cast on depending on the method you use. The crochet hook’s size does not matter as long as it is size f or bigger.
Skills Used: I-cord edge, Intarsia, Stranded (fair isle,) Provisional cast on, Picking up edge stitches, Make One, Right and Left leaning decreases (k2tog, p2tog, ssk, ssp) Knit, Purl and Slip stitches
Finished size: Width approximately 66 in/152 cm at widest point. Depth approximately 28.5in/72.5 cm at deepest point.
