The inspiration for Brina came from a walk I took once during an unexpected cold spell, when everything was covered in tiny ice crystals. It was still early in the autumn season and the trees had most of their leaves. The ice turned the leaves and branches into living lace, silhouetted against a clear blue sky—it was breathtaking. The color of this Sundara yarn, aptly called Icicles, is a perfect match for the original inspiration (CHART ONLY).

Brina is worked from the top down, beginning with the textured short rows, which create the shawl’s crescent shape. The textured branch pattern follows and later merges seamlessly into a narrow leaf-lace border. There are a few nupps worked throughout the border for extra texture, but the design will be just as effective without them; for additional sparkle, the nupps can be replaced with beads.
