This pattern contains instructions for a stranded zig zag and a plain version of the cowl. (The pattern for the plain cowl is available separately here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/quick-folded-cowl. ) There are written instructions for both as well as a chart for the stranded version.

As pictured the stranded version is done with the bulkier yarn and the plain version is done with worsted. A bulkier yarn will produce a thicker and cushier cowl. Using a worsted weight yarn will produce a floppier and more drapey cowl. When finished the ribbed section is folded so that the thickness is doubled. The stranded cowl is thicker than the plain version since it will have both the floats and the ribbing. The ribbing hides the floats when the cowl is worn.
