Whether you’re an island hermit sheltering from northern sea winds and marauders, or just looking for a warm pair of mittens to see out the winter, these medieval-inspired geometric mittens will keep you toasty.

The Tracadie Mittens feature geometric floral design knit in a double-knitting weight yarn. For everyone who has ever told me that my patterns are too delicate or finicky to knit: these are for you!

Inspired by the traditional folk dress of Eastern Europe, as well as the colours of the Maritimes in fall, these mittens feature vertical stripes in different patterns that mimic embroidered ribbons and agricultural imagery.

In spring, delicate blue and white bluets appear along the roadsides in the Kennebecasis River Valley. These mittens were inspired by Victorian china patterns and the flowers of a New Brunswick spring.

Lupins fill the roadsides throughout the Canadian Maritimes, brightening the landscape with spikes of purple, pink and blue. These mittens were inspired by William Morris, Art Nouveau, and my mother’s favourite flowers in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia.

The Carmarthen Mittens are inspired by traditional motifs in Welsh tapestry, as well as Norwegian mitten construction and design. Knit Picks Stroll Glimmer adds a touch of sparkle.

I designed these mittens for my mom, who loves the scent of lilac blossoms in the spring.

I concocted these ankle-warmers while watching a documentary on Lord Nelson. Something about the smoky colour reminded me of London fogs, and the alpaca should keep me warm even in my favourite heels. I may not be able to command weather but at least I can look good while enduring it!
