Knitting: Toy Plant
The inspiration for this knitted flower pattern was traditional Polish Folk Art Motifs.
Knitting: Mittens
The Late Bloomer Mittens first appeared in Making Magazine No .10 Intricate. The pattern was conceived on a sunny autumn day in Toronto. It was during a bike ride past lawns and gardens decorated with fall foliage that the idea took hold. Dinner plate–sized dahlias in burnt orange, yellow, and red bumped heads with towering sunflowers reaching ...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
A simple-looking sock with a three faux cables that climb the length of your gams. A reinforced heel intersects with the vertical motif the runs down the back of the calf. It’s a lovely and unexpected detail that decorates the ankle. This sock is knit from the toe up with a seamless toe, German short rows that shape the heel and a heel flap tha...
Knitting: Mittens
These mittens exude an old-fashion cosiness. Maybe it’s because of the strand of mohair that runs throughout giving them a blurry aura. Maybe it’s because of the two colours that are blended together, bumping up against each other in a uniformly haphazard way that makes these mittens look extra hand-made. Whatever it is these are some comfy mit...
Knitting: Cowl
This cowl is knit with a super bulky yarn. It will knit up lickity-split and be very cozy! The drawback to a thickly knit cowl is the fit. Sometimes it overwhelms the wearer with its abundance. With this in mind we designed this cowl so that the back of the neck is narrower than the front and there is a split bottom hem that fits nicely around ...

Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
When you have a really beautiful yarn it is important to let it shine. We designed this shawl pattern for such a yarn. The yarn in questioned was dyed by hand by Olann, It is brimming with gorgeous subtleties and lots of cascading colour. The Old Mill is also a spinning mill that specializes in the core-spun spinning...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This is an elegant wrapper - so you could wear it as a shawl to a fancy occasion, but do not let it languish in the closest waiting. It is just the thing to toss around your neck while you take the dog for a walk. The magic of this accessory is in the fibre. Mohair is a glossy, fluffy wool that can be knit to a loose and open tension but still ...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
The thing about these socks is they are knit from the toe up. There are many advantages to this, the main one being that calf length can be adjusted at the end rather than at the beginning. This can prevent knitters from running out of yarn before finishing their second sock. Before you begin your sock project, divide your skein of sock yarn in...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Bring on the sun! This is just the thing to knit when you are aching for spring. Choose a happy-making, ready for the sunshine colour like The Knit Cafe’s limited edition, Yarn Club 2018 colour, hand dyed by Madelinetosh. It’s called “Sunprint”. Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
The Maud Sock has a lovely texture. The slip stitch pattern we call the “Cat’s Ear” is especially nice with hand dyed yarns, distributing colour hither and thither so it resists colour pooling. Knitting: Shawl / Wrap, Scarf
The inspiration for this shawl project was the colour. The Knit Cafe collaborated with the wonderful hand dyer Lichen and Lace to create a colour called Emerald City for our Yarn Club 2016. The colour was so fresh and pretty it deserved to become a shawl that exemplified these qualities and so the “There’s No Place Like Home” was born. There ar...
