Knitting is learning! I dabble in design to expand my knowledge of the craft, become a more proficient knitter, and grow my stitchery confidence. The more I explore, the more I realize there’s much to learn in honing my craft.

As a teacher by profession, I firmly believe that to truly understand a topic, one has to be able to explain it. This requires that information be organized in our mind and clearly expressed in our words, so that it may be accurately transmitted to others.

For me, creating a clear and concise knitting pattern means that I understand the process of construction. I’m a visual and tactile thinker and learner, not a spatial one, so designing makes me work on imagining the end product and planning the path to my project destination.

When I design a pattern, even learn to knit it by heart through testing and re-testing, I feel that I have truly grasped my craft.
