The mosaic hat is knit from brim to crown. The pattern needs two skeins of DK yarn, one light and one dark colored. The pattern is very easy and uses only one color every two rows. You slip the stitch of the color that you are not using in the row to complete the pattern.

Newport Spring Hat was inspired by the blossoms of thousands of spring bulbs planted in Newport, RI streets to herald the arrival of spring and the tourists’ visits. This year 2020 because of the Covid-19, the tourists will miss the flowers. The hat is a reminder of spring in winter.

Flying Gulls Hat was inspired by the funny and cunning gulls flying at Easton’s Beach in Newport, RI. These gulls are acclimated to people eating on the beach and are experts in stealing food. They are excellent in timing their thefts of food out of hands or off blankets when people are not attentive. They even raid the snack bar.

Surf Break Cowl is a heavily textured reversible cowl with a different symmetrical 3-D pattern on each side. Pattern was test knit and instructions are charted and written. Any finger weight yarn may be used for this cowl.

I wrote the pattern for my beginner knitting class at Edward King House, Senior Center, in Newport RI. The pattern uses garter stitch and a very simple two row knit and purl stitch. It’s texture reminds me of the sand on the beaches and gentle ripples washing the shoreline.
