The Terrible Troll Bird was a favorite when we were little and inspired the motifs in the Troll Bird Tam. Once the tam was completed, I needed mitts to go with it.
Knitting: Beret, Tam
The Terrible Troll Bird was a favorite tale from when we were growing up. The tam uses inspiration from the book for the motifs, and finishes with the requisite “silver” button. The troll bird itself is included in the motifs.

Out of the blue, I got this idea for a garter stitch striped shawl. The idea was pretty insistent, and since it had the bonus of using up stash, I decided it was only logical to give it a go.

Ageusia is the loss of taste functions of the tongue. When that happens, the texture of the food becomes paramount. This hat uses texture in the form of seed stitch to make it interesting. The finished hat has a band of seed stitch and the crown is formed by alternating sections of stockinette and seed stitch. A decorative tab with an optional ...

Crumpets were a main topic of conversation in the 2016 Indie GAL chat thread. I will admit that I had never had crumpets prior to this event, but they are tasty. I also now have the knowledge of the correct amount of doneness along with many recommendations for toppings. For the curious, I topped my first crumpet with lemon honey.

Inspired by my love of Anne McCaffrey’s Pern and Lynnette Hulse’s Hemisphere, Suitable for Colonization uses double knitting to form a globe of the planet Pern. The double layers will help you stay warm, even for a trip Between.

I saw this cable pattern on a sweater in a store. Of course, I wouldn’t buy the sweater because I can knit. Since I’m not the most enthusiastic sweater knitter, I never got around to making it. Fast forward a couple years (ok, more than a couple) to the receipt of a skein of sock yarn. I remembered this cable pattern and realized it would work ...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
These socks are inspired by the move Before I Go To Sleep, which stars Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth and was designed for Super Sock Scarefest 2017.

I love pie. Given the option between pie and cake, I’ll take the pie (unless it’s one I don’t like, such as rhubarb). Pie versus cheesecake would also be a tough decision.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
I like to knit socks, sometimes starting a sock with ribbing and then seeing what I feel like doing. This sock resulted from one of those times. I don’t always write them up, but I like these and felt like sharing.
Knitting: Food Cozy
When we moved to this house, I found 25 bottles of wine in the basement. I’ll be the first to admit that I do enjoy the occasional glass of wine, usually white or rose. Most of these were red, so I’ve been giving them as gifts.

Knitting: Hats - Other
This hat came as a result of leaving my WIP at home and needing something to knit at the hotel. The only yarn and needles I had was for a hat. Instead of going with a plain rib, I mixed it up with a cabled band with Icord edges. The band is worked to the desired length, then stitches are picked up along the Icord. The body of the hat is worked ...

Autumn is my favorite season. I love the crisp cool days, how clean the air smells on a clear day, the hint of woodsmoke, and the beauty of the trees as the leaves turn. I’m fortunate to live in an area where there are an abundance of deciduous trees.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The inspiration behind the name of this pattern was the really shitty week I was having when I started this pattern. I needed something simple to work on, and the complicated lace shawl wasn’t cutting it.

Are you ready to storm the castle? MKAL starts January 1, 2016.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This pattern started with the yarn. I found a skeinlette bundle at Knitters’ Day Out and immediately pictured a shawl. The mental picture eventually became this shawl.

One of the problems I have with an all-over colorwork pattern is the pattern shift at the beginning of the round. Rather than taking the easy route with panels separated by divider stitches, the pattern repeat is such that the jog is not noticeable.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
I love fairy tales, especially new variations and seeing how the tales have changed over time. These socks, with cables and twisted stitches, are an interpretation of the twists and turns in those tales.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
My mother likes to appropriate hand knit items, such as shawls and socks. I don’t mind making things for her, as she does appreciate them. She has an unfortunate habit of wearing shawls wrong side out. This shawl is designed to be completely reversible, courtesy of garter stitch and ribbing.

Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
I knit in church. It really irks my sister, but it gives the part of my mind that would otherwise be wandering something to do. Afterall, one can only count the organ pipes so many times. Just don’t ask me how many, as I never got an accurate count. The columns of the stitch pattern remind me of the giant pipes of the organ.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I kept thinking about dwarves while working on the pattern for this shawl, which resulted in the name of Diamond Mine.

Gnomes, the fundamental earth spirits, are so often unappreciated. Completely different than the colorful garden gnome statues, these gnomes help maintain the earth, keeping the land fertile and helping to prevent earthquakes. This shawl pays homage to the humble (or not so humble) gnome. Beginning with garter stitch representative of plowed la...

I went through a phase when I was a child where I read a lot of Choose Your Own Adventure books. It would take me forever to finish one, as I would then retrace my steps through the book to make sure I had read every single possibility. Unlike the book versions, none of the choices in this pattern will result in serious bodily injury or death.

In a fit of insanity (which is the only explanation possible) I decided to knit socks as prizes for my Girl Scout troop. Not only did I not come to my senses, but I even shared the idea with my co-leader. This sock pattern developed out of my need to not knit the same plain socks over and over in a month.
