Ann Budd, chef-extraordinaire, whipped up the recipe for this whimsical hat while binge-watching baking shows. Layers of warm wool are folded around the ears and stranded colourwork decorates the brim with a kiss of moose and a sprinkle of traditional snowflakes. Add a swirl of i-cord to the top for the perfect finish. This hat can be served in...

“On a wonderful trip to Zürich, I was struck by the intentional geometry of the paving stones in Sechseläutenplatz, Zürich’s largest open town square. Paving laid of gorgeous grey quartzite cut in variable-width strips creates an ever-changing textural perspective which inspired the gentle tapering ribs of this hat.” ~ Eric Lutz

Inspired by our autumn vistas: the honking of geese heading south, the big blue sky and the horizon line of evergreens separating one farmer’s field from another. We asked Edmonton designer, Jessie McKitrick, to help us create a tuque (original French Canadian spelling) using our Hat Trick Semi-Solid line: the knitter’s watercolours! And the pl...

Knitting: Toy Game
We love “cabin time”. It’s our euphemism for escaping the daily grind. There’s nothing like putting your phone on silent (or finding a spot with no cellular service) to spend some time with real people, engaging in real activities. Whether it’s a picnic, a ball game or a weekend away in the wilderness, we always take our epic checkerboard along...
Knitting: Throw
Inspired by the log cabin quilt pattern, Holli created a modular knit blanket that uses a traditional structure with a contemporary colour choice. We love the effect of the graphic greys, charcoal and black, with that pop of red to represent the hearth. The blanket is made all the cozier with a slight fulling in the finishing.

The Laurentian Plateau covers almost half of Canada, from the Great Lakes to the Arctic Ocean. The rugged landscape inspires images of snow, mineral rich rock and migrating caribou herds. The hat and mittens are worked in the round, and sized for teens and adults. Patterns are charted, and although experience with stranded colour-work is helpful, it’s not required.
Knitting: Cardigan

Knitting: Ankle Sock
We’ve become toe-up sock fans recently. It’s a nice way to knit, fitting them on as you go and there’s an additional bonus of being able to use up all your yarn as you knit merrily around on the cuff. We used two contrasting colours of yarn for these “sporty” socks and ended the cuff just above the ankle (short and sweet and quick to knit).
Knitting: Ankle Sock

We’ve used fingering weight (fine) yarn for this hat but any weight of yarn can actually be used. Just match up your yarn with appropriate double pointed needles and work the increases until you reach the desired head circumference.
