Halyna Shemchuk
Hello, I’m Halyna, a Ukrainian knitwear designer based in England. My collection includes crochet, hand-knitting and machine-knitting patterns. For the past five years, my focus has been on designing for domestic knitting machines, with particular attention to good fit, thoughtful construction and a polished finish.
I enjoy learning new techniques and finding ways to use them in clothes. When I design, I focus on the finished garment: how it fits, how the details work together and how neatly it is finished.
As a child, I wanted to become a teacher. I trained as a programmer instead, but designing and writing patterns has brought those interests together: solving a problem, understanding how something works and explaining it clearly to someone else.
After leaving Ukraine because of the war, I thought my knitting days might be over. A few months later, the family we were staying with found a brand-new Brother 890 in their attic. Meeting Nic Corrigan and becoming part of the Machine Knitting Community helped me find my way back to knitting and to sharing what I make.
My patterns grow out of that practical work. I develop the garment, work through its construction and finishing, then explain the process so you can make your own. Depending on the design, I include video guidance, adjustment formulas or calculators; each pattern page explains what is provided and which equipment you’ll need.
I know how much time and care goes into a knitting project. My aim is to help you spend that time with confidence, learn something useful and finish with a piece you’ll enjoy wearing.
