Final tally: 66% Merino, 8% Nylon, 5% Alpaca, 5% Silk, 5% Wool, 3% Cotton, 3% Other, 2% Cashmere, 1% BFL, and 1% Rayon

So pleased this ended up square so it’s 10/20 of my “5 squared for 2025”. The 5 in this case is colors: brown, red, orange, yellow, and green… or 317!
I have 14.4 MILES of autumn colored scraps, so it’s past time to turn this into a blanket. Due to the size/weight I’ll work SC into SC, 2 rows below, instead of just into the chain space in traditional linen stitch. Smaller hook and all SC for first/last rows, turn after each row, and two hook lengths before/after for fringe to be twisted later. (Later turns out to be once each color group is exhausted, and two hook lengths = 12 inches.) Working each color randomly throughout each section until gone. Holding 3 fingering weight (or yarn I’ve made approximately fingering weight) together. I generally worked through every ball in each color group 3-4 times, then changed “picking” method to use 2 heaviest and 1 lightest ball. That way the yarn I had more yardage of was used more often. 305 stitches wide (including chain spaces for any row other than first/last), 464 rows to complete.
Because of the Spike Stitch and the odd number of total stitches, on even rows, the first and last stitches are BLOSS. On odd rows, the first and last stitches are spike stitches into previous spike stitches. I’m using a 10 row fade (1 new, 2 old, 1 new, 1 old, 1 new, 1 old, 2 new, 1 old) when I predict by weight I still have enough for 5 rows, but not 6. Whatever extra is held with 2 of the new color group in the first couple rows of that section.
