The inspiration for this ebook was four members of the 27 club, many of the members of this group have touched my life, albeit in different ways and I wanted to explore the impact of art and popular culture through a series of socks that loosely play off the artists and musicians, but more importantly the lasting impact that has transcended their work.

The creative process is the inspiration behind the mitt set, which is a visual representation of the journey one takes in finding yourself, along with the people and the moments that leave their mark. The centerpiece was inspired by a vintage cross stitch image, this starting point was an intention inclusion, a testament to one’s origins and early beginnings. How the image changed and grew, how it evolved over the years I worked on this, and the two, complementary, yet, different designs that emerged were a symbol of the movement and growth that continues throughout our journey and lives.

When you escape the constant busyness, when you slow down, you start to hear, to feel, your heart’s true call. A small plea, a chest crushing ache, a longing – there is something you need to say, something you need to do. A union of self, an unfolding, a remembering – the calm that follows a truth that is finally being expressed.

This hat is inspired by the structure of the neuron, the physics that governs our understanding of the passage of time and the work of physicist Carlo Rovelli. In our current understanding, the direction of time is governed by the law which states that heat cannot pass from a cold to a hot body, and it is this unavoidable passage that enables u...

This stranded colourwork cowl features an artistic representation of a UFO spaceship and is worked in a DK weight yarn.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This hat is an exploration of the experience of embodying a liminal space. The psychological process of change, and the uncertainty that one feels in the process of becoming, the precipice where you are not the same person you once were but are not yet who you are meant to become. For me, this process, or journey, is metaphorically categorized ...

The companion piece to the Midnight Blue Hat and Cowl.
Knitting: Cowl
Prior to designing this cowl, I was contemplating the power of change, and how the difficulties that we face can inspire us to turn inward, and find our inner strength. And with this design, I was seeking to express the beauty inherent within inner change and transformation.

At the beginning of the year, I chose a few words that I wanted to hold as intentions for the year, and that I wished to use as inspiration for some of my new designs.

Happy New Year!

While finishing this cowl I was thinking about the inspiration inherent within it, and what I wanted to say, I started contemplating art, what means to me. I studied art because it moved me, I didn’t understand it at the time but there was something about it that pulled at the deepest part of me… the more I learned about it, the more I loved it...

“Let this be a time that you remember that your life is greater than simply being a person in the world who has basic needs. It is this greater part of you—this greater calling and this greater purpose—that gives meaning to all the lesser aspects of yourself and unites them harmoniously and fulfills their roles.” M Summers

This cowl was inspired by the phalaenopsis, or moth, orchid. The phalaenopsis orchid has a special place in my heart. Not only are they my favourite flowers but they always remind me to be grateful for the beauty that life has to offer. One of my moth orchids had a flower stem that was accidentally broken twice in one season, and each time a ne...

The second of my stash dive hats, this one was knitted with my Mom in mind, she loves dogs and all shades of blue - and her dog, Gatsby, is a lovely rust/red colour. I had a small amount of the rust brown left in my stash, along with small amounts of turquoise, blue and a lovely pink - hence a wavy hat with little dogs!

This geometric cowl was inspired by impressionist paintings, and impasto technique of Vincent van Gogh, in particular. It is a celebration of my love of art and the joy and meaning that it has brought to my life.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This hat issued from a scrap yarn stash dive, picking some of my favourite leftover yarn and seeing what I could do with it - this, admittedly slightly arbitrary, geometric themed hat was the result. I had so much fun knitting this and I hope that this design sparks joy in others too!

When I was finishing these mitts I had the song, “This Girl is on Fire” by Alicia Keys, running through my head… it was just such a wonderful day, I was feeling so grateful that I had work that I loved, that my life was moving forward and for the amazing people that had found their way into my life. I felt like a girl on fire, and I just wanted...

The inspiration for this hat was drawn from the floral designs that were prominent on vintage filet crochet nightgown yokes, along with the gorgeous conebush, or leucadendron, flowers. These shrubs are a unique dioecious member of the fynbos species and are a vital part of the fynbos ecosystem of South Africa. This particular image was drawn fr...

I can remember my Great Aunt bringing us some Sweet Alyssum flowers as a gift, purple and white, and how seeing these flowers pop-up in the most unexpected places brought me such joy as a little girl. I can remember the purple flowers growing amidst the grass and popping up in pavement cracks - I was hoping to capture that element of wonder and...

These are my first two paid patterns, why not give them for free like the others? This is something I’ve been sitting with for a long time, I love free designs, they bring me joy and, hopefully, others too.
