Welcome to the Beyond Vanilla Socks Part 1 collection of patterns - the idea being a series of textured sock patterns that take you one step beyond those plain vanilla socks. If you are looking for something a little more engaging than plain stockinette then these patterns will work for you.

eBook : 10 patterns

One of my overarching goals with my design work is customisability and accessibility. In the past year I have worked on developing my Any Gauge method of designing (previous patterns I’ve published with this method are the Any Gauge Tube Cowl and The Hug Shrug) which has further built on this goal by allowing knitters the flexibility and freedom to use these patterns to knit their project with any yarn and needle combination that they would like. These Any Gauge designs provide knitters with the tools and confidence to truly create something unique and customised to them!

Knitting: Pullover
This design has been years in the making. I love the look of alternating Garter stitch with Stockinette stitch and it allows for some fun colour play as well. You can of course choose to knit this sweater with just 1 or 2 colours or have some fun and use as many as you like. The pattern includes all the information you need on how to calculate ...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This shawl was designed at a time where I needed some comfort knitting as I was going through a bit of a knitting slump. I’ve felt like for most of 2021 I’ve been battling with a sort of design block and have really struggled to move passed that feeling. However, the idea for this shawl had been with me for a while in the back of my head and si...

The Vancouver Socks are the Seventh design for the Around The World in 8 Socks pattern club! Vancouver is one of the most special places on this journey we are taking with this sock club. The Tokyo Socks are the Sixth design for the Around The World in 8 Socks pattern club! Tokyo and Japan as a whole was always one of those destinations on my travel Bucket list and in early 2009 the opportunity to go came along when a friend asked me if I wanted to go with her … of course I jumped on that and I’m so glad I did too … it was such ...

The Hong Kong Socks are the Fifth design for the Around The World in 8 Socks pattern club! Hong Kong was always a place we wanted to visit but hadn’t been able to make it work until we were living in Dubai and able to use it as a hub for travelling around to places that were more convenient to reach than if we had we been travelling from the UK...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
The Dubai Socks are the fourth design for the Around The World in 8 Socks pattern club! Dubai is the first city we are visiting on this trip other than London where I have lived for a period of time. The Paris Socks are the second design for the Around The World in 8 Socks pattern club! Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This pattern was born out of a need to just cast on something mindless but also somewhat engaging, during a period of my life where there was just a lot going on, from grief of loosing a loved one, to dealing with the Covid Pandemic, to having just completed a large scale design project, and frankly not having the brain space to do anything mor...
Knitting: Pullover
This Sweater has been almost 3 years in the making! … Ever since I published my first Adult garment design, the Mix and Match Cardigan pattern, back in 2018, I’ve been consistently asked if I would be releasing a Pullover version of the pattern. My answer was always “Someday”, life and other work commitments always got in the way and honestly I...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
I am so excited to announce the launch of my first pair of socks designed with handspun yarn in mind. The pattern is called Changing Lanes as the travelling rib pattern reminds me of cars changing lanes on the motorways. You can of course knit these socks out of any standard commercially spun sock yarn you would like, much like how you can knit...
Knitting: Pullover, Cardigan
Marling is hands down one of my favourite ways to play with colour when knitting. It can sometimes give more subtle results than just plain striping and it also allows you to combine yarns to create a heavier gauge so your project knits up faster (I call that a win - win scenario)!
Knitting: Pullover
The design for this sweater was an idea I had wanted to play around with for a while and I absolutely love how it has turned out. It has been very popular in recent years to fade your colours in your knitting from one to another, but in this design the colour remains constant however you are fading your pattern. At the start of the knitting you...

Knitting: Shrug / Bolero
The Hug Shrug is finally here! this is the perfect shrug cardigan to just throw on while at home. Its cosy and warm without being cumbersome and in the way. The front is open but the ribbed sleeve cuffs means it doesn’t get in the way of your hands when your going about your day.
Knitting: Pullover
This sweater is a great beginner colourwork project for someone who wants to expand their sweater knitting skills! You can use anywhere from 1 - 5 contrast colours for the colourwork portion of the sweater and this is a great way to use up some left over DK weight yarn from other projects or even some fingering weight held double.
Knitting: Cowl
The Two Colour Fisherman’s Rib Cowl pattern is a very simple design I created to teach as part of my “How to Knit 2 Colour Fisherman’s Rib Class” that I teach at events.
Knitting: Cowl
The Diamonds & Stripes Cowl is part of the Cast On Collaborative’s December of Designers, a fundraiser for suicide awareness. 50% of the sales from this design on the 24th December will go to PAPYRUS, an organisation in the UK that is dedicated to the prevention of Youth suicide.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The Elysian Shawl is the perfect introduction to Two Colour Fisherman’s rib creating a brioche fabric without the fear of brioche (not that you should be scared of brioche) … the word Elysian means something blissful or delightful and I feel that perfectly describes how I felt about this pattern while I was knitting it!

Knitting: Pullover
I had always had it in my mind that I wanted to design a sweater for my husband, something that he would want to constantly reach for and put on before leaving the house, as well as being comfortable and easy to wear while also looking smart and put together. At the same time it needed to be practical and warm for the colder months!
Knitting: Pullover
The Forage sweater is a Top Down Raglan pullover with a colourwork pattern incorporated into the raglan shaping at the top. It has some optional short row shaping before the hem starts to create a hi-lo bottom edge to the sweater and has an overall slightly cropped look (this can be customised to be more or less cropped).

Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
This is really a 2 in 1 type of pattern! there are two cable options for these socks so you can knit each sock in the pair with a different but similar cable running down the front. Hence the name, Sisters Not Twins as the socks turn out to be non identical but with the same feel.
Knitting: Pullover
The Yorkville Sweater is a cosy cropped pullover with a hi-lo hem giving the lower back area a little more coverage! With a slightly relaxed fit and all over textured patterning it makes a super comfy sweater. I wanted something easy and warm that I could throw on over any outfit and this has proven to be just the sweater I wanted for that!
Knitting: Cowl
This is a super simple tubular or inifinity cowl pattern to accompany the first (of hopefully many) Knit With Me Series that I will be creating for my Youtube Channel (Knitting Expat Podcast).
Knitting: Cowl
Its time for the fourth and final pattern in the Minilicious Pattern club and this time we are dabbling with the stranded colourwork technique … don’t let that scare you off, this pattern has lots of soothing garter stitch and colourful stripes at the start and end bookending the fun colourwork in the middle. The colourwork is a fun geometric K...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I have recently fallen in love with the art of spinning and had been wanting to merge my love of both spinning and knitwear design together!
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
Its time for the third pattern in the Minilicious Pattern club and this time we are stepping things up a gear in terms of technique and complexity … although don’t let that scare you because this pattern is still fairly simple … but it has the bonus of looking way more difficult to knit that it really is.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I was honoured to have been asked to design a shawl to go along with the June 2019 instalment of the Indie Project collaboration being run by Lavender Lune Yarn Co. For the month of June two indie dyers (Lavender Lune Yarn Co & Six and Seven Fiber) dyed yarns using the same inspiration photo and came up with two fantastic colour-ways that p...

Its time for the second pattern in the Minilicious Pattern club. This was actually the first design in the set that I finished, so I have been waiting a long time to finally be able to share the Porthole Cowl with you all!
Knitting: Pullover
This sweater is a simple basic Raglan pullover with instructions on how to do some simple calculations so you can do a colour blocked version (as shown in the sample) using as many or as few colours as you would like.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
It’s the launch pattern for the Minilicious Pattern club and I’m so excited to finally be able to share with you this design I’ve been keeping hidden for so long … this is the Rainbow Wings shawl and I absolutely love how this idea turned out!
Knitting: Cowl
I recently published the WAFFLE Pullover and I loved the textured stitch in that pattern so much I really wanted to design a cowl that used it as well. It creates such a squishy fabric that it just begged to be something that went round the neck.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
After I had finished working on a different project using 6 skeins of fingering weight yarn I had lots of leftovers and I decided I wanted them to be something else really special, the yarns all meant alot to me due to the place I was in personally when I purchased them and I wanted to make the most of it.

Its a new month and time for the last instalment of the Seasons Sock club! this is the fourth and final pattern in the club and is based around my favourite season in the year - Autumn. Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I had the idea for this shawl for a while before I finally allowed myself to cast it on … I hadn’t fully decided on the shape or exact pattern but I knew I wanted to marl the colours together in the method I used here. It does take a small amount of planning at the start but this is such a quick and satisfying project to work on its totally wor...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Three of my closest friends have their birthdays within a month of each other and so last year I decided to knit them all hats for their birthday. I ended up designing 3 different cabled hats but all using the same base pattern just incorporating different cables in each one. I thought this would be a fun idea to play with and wrote up the patt...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
Its a new month and time for the next instalment of the Seasons Sock club! this third pattern in the club is Summer themed. I went with an all over textured pattern utilising some slipped stitches for these socks, as the texture created reminded me of sandwiches which in turn made me think of picnics in the summer (a little random I know but so...
Knitting: Cowl
I have recently fallen in love with the Fisherman’s Rib technique and especially how it creates a Brioche fabric without actually using Brioche stitches … I find its a much simpler way to knit brioche without being intimidating … there is also a video tutorial linked in the pattern which will help show you how to work the cables in this cowl.
Knitting: Pullover
I had always had this idea for a matching set of Pullovers for me and my daughter to wear! It had been mellowing out in my mind for a while until early 2018. Then I spent most of 2018 working on this idea and I love how it turned out.

I was delighted to have been asked by Kelsey (Primrose Yarn Co) to design a sweater for Vogue Knitting Live in New York (2019) our of her yarn. I had this idea for a pullover in mind for a while so as soon as she mentioned the collaboration I knew exactly what I wanted it to be!

Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I met Stephanie (Owner of Loop Fibre Studio) at Rhinebeck in 2018 and I was totally inspired by her new range of Yin Yang Artisanal Millspun yarns that I pretty much cast on this design less than a week after I got home!

This is a large shawl inspired some of the most beautiful autumnal colours you see around this time (October) in nature and I love how these colours work together. Paired with a strand of lace weight Mohair Silk yarn it really tones down the brightness of the colours and brings the whole piece together.

Knitting: Pullover
I really wanted a fun yet practical sweater for my daughter, I had noticed over the last few months that pullovers were definitely more practical for her than cardigans with fussy buttons, and I was struggling to get her to keep a hat on her head, but she loved and tolerated the hood from her winter jacket.

Knitting: Beanie, Toque
I love simple textures and this pattern has just that … a really simple texture that is almost as mindless as plain stockinette, with fun Star shaped decreases on the crown of the hat (which is what gave this pattern its name)! As with most of my hat patterns this one is sized for all the family, an elegant and unisex design that would be suita...

This pullover was inspired by my desire for a garment that I could just throw on without fussing over but still look good, and its a relaxed fit boxy shaped pullover that does just that! Its comfortable and cosy to wear and a great layering piece or works well as something light to throw on for a slightly cool day.

Knitting: Dress
This dress is inspired by a dress that was knit for me when I was a baby by my Aunt Nahid (pronounced Nad-Heed) and as such it is very dear to my heart. I wanted to recreate a version of this dress so I could knit one in a larger size for my daughter after she had outgrown the original that I wore as a baby.

Knitting: Baby Blanket
This is a simple yet very effective Garter Chevron blanket design, I initially knit this when I was first pregnant with my baby, and it got me through a really rough week of morning sickness where this was the only thing I could knit on. Knitting: Scarf, Shawl / Wrap
This pattern is a culmination of several of my favourite things, using fingering weight held double to roughly get a worsted weight fabric, and blending colours by marling them together in this way … after crocheting a baby blanket for my baby earlier this year the idea came to me that this technique would be really fun to work for a knitted sc...

The Spring Into Summer Shawl is a pattern I’d been thinking about for over a year before I finally cast it on and started working on it … its a mostly garter based shawl (the only purling required is in the lace section) with a fun texture stitch to work in your contrast colours and a simple yet effective lace pattern to really show off your ne...

What you will need:
Knitting: Pullover
I have now updated this design to increase the range of sizes and also to change how the neck shaping is worked to make it all more streamlined!
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
A lovely fun shawl to knit with stockinette wings and a lace panel down the centre. This is a great pattern for those new to lace knitting as you are not having to worry about doing any increases or decreases in the lace section, your stitch count in the lace panel never changes so its easy to spot any errors as you go along.

Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This was a design that was inspired by my first snow day experience in New York City. I had visited NYC many times in the past, but never managed to experience it during a snow day, and since moving here there had been the odd day here and there with a snow shower but nothing significant. But at the end of the first week of January 2017 New Yor...

A super simple textured DK weight hat perfect to keep your head warm on those chilly winter mornings … knit it as a lovely treat for yourself or as a lovely quick gift knit for a loved one.
Knitting: Baby Blanket
This blanket design was inspired by my soon to be born baby and I wanted to knit my little nugget a special blanket to keep her warm in the late winter after she is born. At the time when I designed this blanket we did not know if we were having a boy or a girl and I knew I wanted the design to have a lace element to it. So this pattern was bor...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This pattern is designed to be a large oversized cozy blanket/shawl – aka a Shlanket! Designed so that it is cozy to work on and then super snuggly to wrap up in and keep warm on a cold winters day.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This shawl is knit from the bottom up. You will knit the edging portion first back and forth from one end to another (from left to right in the finished photos) to form a long strip of garter lace. Once the edging is complete you will pick up stitches along the side of the lace and then you will knit the body from the bottom up decreasing stitc...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
A super fun and squishy hat to knit up for the colder months. The double brim will give you a super cosy fit around the forehead and ears to keep you warm when its windy outside. I love knitting hats but I always find the ribbed brims were not thick enough to keep out the cold winds. I also wasn’t the biggest fan of a turned up brim as then I always felt like I was fussing around with the ribbing to make sure it was evenly folded up all around and to make sure it looked right all the time. So I decided to go with a vari...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This shawl design was inspired by my Sister in Law who had asked me to knit her a simple yet elegant shawl for her to wear on her wedding day. I was delighted to do so and after we discussed a few ideas together, I settled on a simple garter based shawl with some eyelet and drop stitch detailing. I didn’t want her to have to worry on the day wh...

The name for this design was suggested to me by a viewer of my podcast and I love the idea behind it. Le Moelleux is French and means squishy, it is also a term used for the pastry Brioche in France as well … so Le Moelleux Shawl is quite simply The Squishy Brioche Shawl … a name that perfectly embodies the best aspects of this garment.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The name for this shawl is inspired both by the yarn and the lace pattern on the edging. The yarn I chose initially and used for the fingering weight version of the shawl is from the Highlands in Scotland where it is dyed using natural dyes. Following on from that the simple lace edging creates a chevron pattern with the eyelets that look like ...

Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The name for this shawl came from a combination of factors. Firstly the two yarns used for the original shawl (large one pictured above) were dyed on opposite sides of the Atlantic … the yarn in the main body is the Stellar Banshee colour by Voolenvine Yarns based in the USA and the edge lace is the Pale Cream colour by The Wool Barn based in t...

This hat was designed as a gift for a little girl named Lara for her birthday … I then went away and adjusted the pattern to make an adult sized version and that is where this pattern came from … it was only fitting to name the hat after the little girl as it was with her in mind that this was created … I hope you enjoy the pattern and do let m...

The Delayed Departures Cowl is a flexible and fully adjustable design that can be adapted to suit your tastes. The design stemmed from my love of simple lace patterns and geometric shapes. This hat was born by accident, I wanted something simple to knit and fancied making a slouchy hat, so I just cast on and knit away. It wasn’t until I had finished the hat and went to put it on my head that I discovered the proportions had worked out perfectly for it to be both a slouchy hat and a beanie.
