Knitting: Ankle Sock
“Noah-Marie” is a close sibling to my previously published pattern “Melanie”. Here, you get a more closed fit above the foot but not that upriding instep. A doubled cuff (optionally in contrast color) with the same stitch count as the foot provides a secure fit without the heel sliding down.

From time to time I have a crochet phase, and sometimes a pattern emerges from there. This hat features a pattern that is kind of a one-color interlocking crochet. The result is a textured fabric that
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This hat started with playing around in two-color crochet brioche. If you modify the stitches to standard double crochets, the fabric has the same vertical striping effect by working with only one color per round, but is less dense. Paired with a slip-stitch cuff and a braided-looking transition, this hat can be worked as a beanie or slouch. At...

Recently I discovered “Bosnian crochet”, also known as “slip stitch crochet”. If you work only slip stitches into the back loops back and forth in rows, the resulting fabric looks knitted and is very stretchy. Sounds perfect for a hat that can fit various sizes. A fold-up brim also can accommodate various heights as needed.

A friend inspired me to come up with a sneaker pattern that features a gentle “ballerina” style where the cuff sits slightly deeper at the front. It took me a while to figure out all the little details, but here you go!
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
I was asked to write down my version for preemie socks, and maybe add 1-2 sizes for baby socks… well, here you are :-)
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Lately I have been knitting hats for charity and tried different patterns. All of them were great, but I missed something in each of them. One was too slouchy, the next had only one size or used a yarn that was not available to me. This is usually the point were I grab pencil, paper and math and write up my own pattern.

Knitting: Beanie, Toque
It is widely known among my knitting friends that I knit for charity and that I am also adopting yarn for this cause. So when said friends are destashing yarn, some of it is forwarded to me. Although I am a fan of gauge swatching, I dislike doing so for every different yarn. And here kicked my engineering brain in: why not develop a pattern tha...
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This pattern provides instructions in US-terms for a crochet preemie hat in two most common sizes. It is ideal for using even the smallest left-overs - avoid weaving in ends by crocheting over them as you go!
Knitting: Mittens
This pattern came to be as I was thinking about streamlining knitting mittens for charity. I had two major issues I wanted to improve: First, I find knitting the thumb tedious. But if you can split off the thumb, why not split off the hand and work the thumb first? Second, I wanted a round top so that you do not have to worry which mitten is „l...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This pattern provides instructions for a preemie hat in two most common sizes. Special feature is a knot at the top which makes this hat extra cute. Please ask the NICU you are donating to if they accept hats with a knot. An alternative version without the knot is included in the patter, too.

Worked differently than most knitted hats, the cleverly constructed Alongside Slouch begins with a narrow garter-stitch panel worked back and forth. Then, stitches are picked up along each side of the center panel, and the crown is shaped with increases. The other side of the hat mirrors the first side, with crown decreases, then side stitches ...

Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
Recently I discovered a new heel variation and made myself a pair using a simple knit-purl-pattern. Maybe you want some for yourself, so I wrote down my notes. This is not a real “pattern” but rather notes how to implement the “broken rib” pattern and how to work the heel. You will also find a size chart.

Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
Fingerless mitts provide your hands with extra warmth and protection when you’re exploring the wild. Here, a simple knit and purl combination does two things: it creates a textured fabric, and it avoids unwanted pooling in a variegated yarn. The special yarn used in this design blends wool, nylon, and Outlast, a viscose fiber that reacts to the...

Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This slouchy hat is easy to work in just chain stitches and single crochet which combine to a tweed looking fabric. It is ideal for those multicolored yarns that drown any pattern – here they are highlighted by a pattern that mingles the colors!
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This hat features enough slouch so that it can also be worn as a beanie with folded brim. It is worked in back loop only single crochet while spiraling 6 strands of yarn – perfect for left-overs or mini-skeins! The resulting fabric is rather light so this hat can also be worn in transitional weather. Tip: make two and join them at the edge for ...

Mavis is a very versatile accessory. It can be worn as a cowl or as a hat in many variations. The sample shown is worked using only left-over yarn; one half shows tiny stripes in similar colors, the other half features stripes in different colors and widths. This enhances the different wearing styles by choosing which side you want to show.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This crochet slouchy hat is worked in “Fair Isle Crochet” technique developed by Karen Whooley (if you want more in-depth information about this technique, there is an online video course at craftsy.com). Choose two contrasting colors and crochet round and round – or use left-over sock yarn, making the hat very colorful. An ideal stash buster p...

Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
For every knitting project I start by making a gauge swatch. There is only one except: socks! Starting a sock is as much knitting as a swatch, and I can even try it on my foot to check the fit! These socks where designed for just that case – a lovely sock yarn that you do not know the exact gauge. So you start making a stockinette toe and foot,...

Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
This halfcircle shawl is worked in Tunisian simple stitch with a small border. This lightly patterned border is worked sideways and attached to the main shawl as you go. Finally, a picot edge with beads is worked using regular crochet, weighing down the edge. With all these bordering features, it is possible to use a non-woolen yarn for this sh...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
Some people just don’t like a pattern on their socks, but sometimes that’s just too boring to knit. So here are some cuff-down socks that are stockinette with two panels of biased fabric. Those panels run all along the sock and include the gusset and the toe. Made in neutral colors this pattern gently shows but is not too obvious. Made in a sel...

This pattern is called bipolar (the scientific word fo the existence of two opposites) because of two reasons: first, it combines two yarns with different character. Shibui’s “Linen” is a chainette yarn made from linen that gives some body to the fabric. “Cima” is a plied wool yarn that adds warmth. Second, the resulting item can be worn as a c...

Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
This pattern is for a basic triangular lace shawl worked in Tunisian crochet. It is written in such a fashion that you can work it to any size. The main part is worked in the simple stitch. A border in “seed stitch” and two rows of regular crochet prevent the edge from rolling. A great project for a first item in Tunisian lace!
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This triangular shawl is worked in three colors using a simple tweed-pattern. It looks intricate, but in fact it is easy to work! You need to know how to knit, slip stitches and increase by knitting into the front and back of a stitch, and how to read charts. For the color changes, you do not cut the yarn so there are only a few ends to weave i...

Matching the winter accessories collection, these socks are made of dk weight yarn and feature the zig-zag-style textured pattern. The contrast color is used for the ribbing, heel and toes.

You can choose between the full mittens version or a fingerless mitts version – or knit both!

Knitting: Cowl
This generously sized cowl will keep your neck warm in the winter! The extra length allows for a double-layered wear which will fight off the cold air. Special features are a reversible zig-zag-style textured pattern and ribbed edgings in a contrast color, which brighten up the dull winter months.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
For quite some time I was thinking about a triangular shawl that featured stripes of color emerging from one corner, spreading out all over the shawl. Also, I wanted a shawl that had one jagged edge. These two design elements were not possible with a traditionally constructed shawl. After some time, I realized both elements were only possible i...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This is the perfect project for everyone who has a bin full of left-over sock yarn. Dive into your stash and knit up this fun, bottom-up shawl with build-in fringe! It is worked in garter stitch, so there are only knit stitches (and some increases) and no purling. Also, there is only one row to remember, so there is no “right” or “wrong” side. ...

Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This asymmetrical, triangular shawl is worked on the bias. Columns of two different lace patterns emphasize this construction. “Sonja” can be worked to any size, using any weight of yarn and any gauge. Choose the needle size as big as you want for an open lace or as small as you want for a more dense fabric.

Dayna is a “heartshaped”, or crescent, shawlette made out of 100g sock yarn. Looking like a bird spreading his wings, Dayna is the perfect little accessory for your neck in transitional weather: you can wear it around your shoulders to show off the stitch pattern, or you can wrap it around your neck like a scarf if the weather gets cooler.

From the toe emerges a cable pattern, broadening to the whole instep. At the gusset the cable design splits up, giving way for a different stitch pattern.

Sara is the big sister of my other sock pattern “Amy Lee”. Sara is basically not written for a beginning sock knitter, as she does not explain any special techniques (magic cast on, lifted increases, wrapped stitches/short rows, loose bind of). Of course you can give her a try if you use other sources for those techniques!
