The front and back are knit first, with a two-button closure on each shoulder. The stitches for the sleeves are picked up and knit from the edges of the front and back pieces and stitches for the neckband are picked up and knit after the rest of the sweater is complete.

This is a seamless top-down pullover that is a fairly easy knit. The pattern is also easy to remember once you’ve done a couple of rounds. This is a very stretchy stitch and while you’re knitting, it may appear that the sweater will be too small. Once it’s off your needles and blocked it will be fine.

The sweater is a top-down raglan cardigan with a square yoke. It has a lace pattern near the bottom of the sweater and also at the wrist of the sleeves. The hat is worked in the round, bottom-up and has the lace pattern just above the hat band.

There are 2 different cable patterns used in a 4 row repeat. The finished blocked size is 6” by 29” but it can easily be made larger or smaller by doing more or fewer pattern repeats.

June 2013 - A number of people told me they wished that this pattern were available in more sizes so I have finally re-worked it. The new pattern is a little different but not too much. You can find the new one in the pattern section here on Ravelry under the name Sweet Baby Sweater. It doesn’t have a hat though.
