The knitter’s guide to the galaxy! Four patterns with an innovative shaping for triangular shawlettes: Hitchhiker, Trillian, Magrathea and Lintilla. Their names come from Douglas Adams’ great series of books “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”, because the prototype of the first pattern happened to have exactly 42 teeth - and 42 is kind of a magic number in these books. The shawlettes are all based on garter stitch and work especially well with handdyed, variegated fingering-weight yarn.

Oh, those colorful Wollmeise skeins that can be real divas when it comes to finding the right pattern! How about this: A soft, stretchy cape-cowl-hybrid that extends right below your shoulders and replaces a scarf beneath your jacket or cardigan. I love that it does not leave any gaps at the neck where the cold wind can sneak in, as scarves usua...

This little neckerchief is the manly version of my Scallo-Pie shawlette pattern: Instead of a scalloped edge, Sharky-Pie features an innovative shark-tooth border that just takes two rows to knit. I provide an instructional video, the link is included in the pattern. You can close the neckerchief by pulling one end through a one-row-buttonhole t...
Knitting: Scarf, Shawl / Wrap
I love the look of variegated sockyarn, especially Wollmeise, in simple garter stitch. And I love a little something around my neck when it’s cold. So I invented this pretty and practical scarf-shawl-hybrid: It is shaped as a very wide triangle with 22.5-degree-angles at the tips (rather than the usual 45 degrees). It can be wrapped around sever...
